What is molecular hydrogen?

Hydrogen Reference Beauty and Health Care

Molecular hydrogen, the smallest, most prevalent molecule in the universe, might change the health care industry.

What is molecular hydrogen?

Hydrogen is the first, and lightest element on the periodic table. Hydrogen atom is extremely reactive and will bonds with another hydrogen atom to form molecular hydrogen.

Due to its small size and neutral charge, Molecular hydrogen can penetrate cell membranes, the blood-brain barrier and even the cell nucleus to protect our DNA, reduce free radicals and enhance mitochondrial health.

Main properties of Molecular hydrogen

Research findings about the medical effects of molecular hydrogen were first published on Nature Medicine in 2007. Since then, scientists start to pay attention to this magical element and its therapeutic effects.

Followings are some main properties and therapeutic effects of molecular hydrogen:

1. Antioxidant power.

As a selective antioxidant, molecular hydrogen only targets the toxic free radicals, such as the hydroxyl free radical(OH), that harm our health.

It works like this: when molecular hydrogen meets hydroxyl free radical (OH), it converts the free radical into water.

Moreover, this conversion will not produce any negative by-products.

2. Activation power.

Molecular hydrogen supports human body’s in-house antioxidant system by selective activation of specific cell-signaling pathways, which help the regulation of wide variety of antioxidant, detoxification, and cell survival genes.

3. Cell modulation.

Since molecular hydrogen can access to the nucleus and mitochondria, it produces a unique cell-modulating effect that affects cell signaling, cell metabolism, and healthy gene expression.

This helps our body in anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, anti-obesity, and anti-aging.

Although we’re still in the early stage of hydrogen medicine, the researches of how molecular hydrogen benefits human health are promising.
